Now that we've moved into the new house and can find most of the things we need, I took a break from painting and unpacking, and started to explore my new neighborhood.
I've seen this building many times and have watched the light change on its textured surfaces. This is the first photo in what I hope will be an ongoing series of explorations.

And it's time for another Barbie. http://barbiedollportrait.blogspot.com/

Recent Work - 2012.5

Why shoot it?
Because I grew up in St. Louis, on the Hill, where bricks were everywhere. And because my grandfather worked in the brickyards, making bricks from scratch in huge ovens. And because I like the way a brick feels in your hand; with it’s sharp edges and considerable heft. And because this stacked composition interested me. And because time took its toll; with some of the bricks covered in moss and all of them leaning carefully to the left. And because someone put a cinder block at the end of the pile to help stabilize it. And because it started out neat and tidy and good intentioned but ended up comfortable, worn and balanced . . . like life itself.

New House, Old Memory

They say details make the house and this is one that a previous owner left behind for us in our new home.
On the door frame between the living and dining rooms, is a modest growth chart of the children who once lived here. The last entry of
6-30-07, records the tallest at a height of 40".
     Nice detail.

Moving

We moved this past week, so there wasn't any time to shoot something new for the blog. I did, however, find this photo op which clearly shows our new decorating style - contemporary cardboard.
