After posting four weeks of Recent Work abstractions that were shot indoors, I decided to get out and look for something new. I unexpectedly found this photo opportunity on my way to shoot some portraits.
     The area is new to me and I saw a lot of potential for other images. For now, this was the quick shot that I grabbed before starting the people pics.

When it comes to my photography, I'm all over the place. I don't have any one particular style or concentrate on any given subject matter. I prefer to approach my art with an enthusiasm for anything that peaks my interest. This medium is still very new to me and I have an appetite for exploring the possibilities that I let slip through my hands when I was in art school. For now, the world around me is my classroom.

Creating work that I like, takes me in many directions. Most often, I try to throw out conventional thinking and look for something that I didn't know was there. I enjoy this process of discovery and was pleased to find and shoot the above photographs that were combined into one image titled Abstraction 7/9.

Giacometti's People (I) is a new image that sprung from a moment of "seeing". I saw the idea for a photo, watched the light come upon the scene and knew it was something I wanted to keep. 
     I previewed this photo with my friend Lynn, who made the best comment; "I like that I don't know what they are which leaves the imagination free to choose what to see."
     Thanks Lynn, I couldn't have said it better myself.
     Giacometti's People (I) is the first image in a triptych of photos.

Seen and Noted

I've driven past this so many times that I've forgotten how bizarre it is. I guess even sheet metal manufacturers feel the need to be creative.

La Lettre was voted a Winner by Life magazine in 2011's Best Photo Blogs.

Stereoscope - Part Two

My friend, the Painter +, made a comment about one of my photos looking like a stereoscope and that idea stuck in my head.
     Earlier this year I posted a photo titled Camper under the headline of Stereoscope - Part One. I liked the concept that it had the qualities of a symmetrical mirror image. Homes in that area have few identifying details that set them apart.
     Today's image, East Facade, Looking West, is another example of my Simplify mantra and the stereoscopic notion. You can enlarge the image to see patterns of bricks and mortar but I prefer the flat, geometric approach to this photo.

Documentary - Part One

In 2005, my wife and I spent a week in Grand Canyon National Park. I've already posted some of the big landscape images on this blog, and now wanted to show some of our journey to the Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the Canyon.

  

  

The white dot in the center of the photo is actually the lead mule in the team ahead of us. 

  

Curated - Part One

Recently I received a comment that I should create more than one image of a location. The truth is, I do create more than one image - often I create many images but only post one as a sample of what I'm working on. Sometimes the photos I create are scattered throughout the blog, within different series. And sometimes I edit the selections down to the one image that I like the best.
     Looking back at previous posts, I realized that a group of photos all came from the same location; six out of seven of them within a hundred yards of each other. They were all shot on different days, at different times of the year, over several years, but I liked the way they came together as a body of work.
     Here then is my first self-curated, mini-show of an area called Hog Hollow; where suburbia surrounds corn fields and open areas. Enjoy the show. (click on any image to enlarge)
